3/13に第55回ヴェネツィア・ビエンナーレ展の概要が発表されました。
55th International Art Exhibition
The Encyclopedic Palace
1st June > 24th November 2013The 55th International Art Exhibition will take place in Venice from June 1st to November 24th, 2013 at the Giardini and at the Arsenale (preview: May 29th, 30th and 31st 2013), as well as in various venues the city.
The title chosen by curator Massimiliano Gioni for the 55th International Art Exhibition is: Il Palazzo Enciclopedico / The Encyclopedic Palace. Massimiliano Gioni introduced the choice of theme evoking the artist self-taught Italian-American Marino Auriti that“on November 16, 1955 filed a design with the US Patent office depicting his Palazzo Enciclopedico (The Encyclopedic Palace), an imaginary museum that was meant to house all worldly knowledge, bringing together the greatest discoveries of the human race, from the wheel to the satellite. Auriti’s plan was never carried out, of course, but the dream of universal, all-embracing knowledge crops up throughout history, as one that eccentrics like Auriti share with many other artists, writers, scientists, and prophets who have tried – often in vain – to fashion an image of the world that will capture its infinite variety and richness.”
そのキュレーター挨拶の中で、参加アーティストとして澤田真一さんの名前が挙げられています。
Catalogues, collections, and taxonomies form the basis for many works on view, including J.D. ‘Okhai Ojeikere’s photos, Uri Aran’s installations, Kan Xuan’s videos, Shinichi Sawada’s bestiaries and Matt Mullican’s labyrinths. Pawel Althamer assembles a collective portrait with a series of eighty sculptures.

澤田真一さんは「アール・ブリュット ジャポネ展」などでも紹介された日本の代表的なアール・ブリュット作家。作品はGoogle画像検索でも数多く見られます。
日本人に限らずざっとアーティスト名を見ていくと、他にも Anna Zemánková や Friedrich Schröder-Sonnenstern など著名なアール・ブリュット／アウトサイダー・アートの作家が見受けられます。これまで独自の文脈で扱われてきたこれらの作品や作家が、世界で最も権威ある現代美術の国際美術展覧会であるヴェネツィア・ビエンナーレで取り上げられることは、従来的なカテゴライズにも影響を与えていくのではないでしょうか。
